US President Joe Biden has said that Vladimir Putin would likely use chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine ‘as his 'back is against the wall’ following prolonged fighting that has met severe Ukrainian resistance. Mr Biden maintained that the Russian leader Mr Putin may be considering the use of chemical and biological weapons in order to turn the tide in the war. During the business roundtable

event in Washington DC, President Biden said he believes that Russia is preparing new “false flags” as a pretext to use deadly weapons against the Ukrainian people.

"They are also suggesting that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine," Mr Biden said, adding that "That's a clear sign he's considering using both of those."

In early March 2022, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had warned the secretary of Russia’s Security Council that the Kremlin would face severe consequences if it deployed chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine. Senior US officials have repeatedly maintained that Russia may use false chemical weapons claims as a precursor to using such weapons in a bid to upturn their failed mission in Ukraine.

Earlier in March, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan warned the secretary of Russia's Security Council that Moscow would face consequences if it deployed chemical or biological weapons in Ukraine.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine of Ukraine is largely stalled due to consistent resistance from the Ukrainian side although Moscow continues to maintain that the war is going according to plain and that they would achieve their goal.
